If you agree that politics is not a profession but a special call to service by a person, people or group, you would also accept that genuine politics must come from the spirit of volition. That is, service without asking anything in return. The scenario about genuine politics is an upshot of charity or love for a people and the system they use. If you love a people, you must love their system, which is seen as greater than the products.
The imperatives of having people in top leadership position who are not career politicians, is seen in the result of the system and how they work and function to deliver and meet the needs of the populace. Below are some of the imperatives discussed.
1. Character Strength: a leader like president-elect Donald J Trump who outrightly said that he will not collect salary if he assumes office as president of the United States, reflects a heart full of character strength and volition for service and system building and re-branding for the benefit of the American people which he is called to serve. Character is love; everything about character is summed up in love. That is why love is regarded by the maker as the greatest. Having a leader with such mind set is having a leader with the greatest heart towards the service of the people. Service without payment is definitely a sacrifice, and sacrifice can only come from a heart that is God and people oriented without selfish motives. Adopting love and selfless service as the drive to lead a people will surely have an impeccable result and a mark of leadership qualities to emulate now and in the future. In my book titled Marital Plus, the ten commandments were summarized simply into two as follows:
1st to 3rd - Love for God (obedience, prayer, fasting, word of God)
4th to 10th - Love for neighbor (selfless service, leadership, fruits of God's spirit)
If you have the first department without the second, you become a person with extremist ideas (holy holy). Through the first category we receive from God and by the second we give to behave and lead as God would have done. If faith is not centred on this two, then it is never going to yield result rather it will result to crisis, greed, extremism, leadership woes and other societal ills.
2. Good Influence on Other Leaders: A career politician does not see politics from the perspective of selfless service, system building and re-branding. But rather a way of fulfilling his achievement in life, enriching himself and family, opportunity to be husband to the populace and oppress his enemies with leadership authority and perpetrate agendas against the demands of the people and a system that suits them among others. When a person who is not a career politician assumes office, he would seek to address those issues that borders the tax-payers and citizens because himself is also part and parcel of the system who knows where the bottlenecks lie in doing business and earning a living. The attitude demonstrated at solving those societal problems that affects the people selflessly, he would thereby make a good name better than riches. That would further influence other leaders around him and even outside his leadership jurisdiction. Leaving a big leadership shoe to be worn by successors, easy to reveal their leadership size in comparison.
3. Focus on Solution and Not Position: Many career politicians are focused on their position and not on the solution dimensions to the people's problem. A non-career politician with selfless leadership mind from volition does not find it difficult to resign or handover power to another timely or untimely, because his life sustenance and interest is not on the position he occupies but on the solution he can get for the people in which system he is part of. And as well bear in mind that he needs to raise future leaders greater than himself in the present circumstance.
Some career politicians do nothing when they assume office other than scheming ways to remain or return to power without minding whether they solve the people's problems generally or not. They don't mind bribing to any level with the amount that is supposed to meet the needs of the people just to buy a process or system for selfish leadership aim. Making sure that every mouth that speaks must be in their favour. A non-career politician with selfless service mindset doesn't mind criticism or opposition, he see criticism and other oppositions as the only school for leaders in position.
4. Long term, Medium term and Short-term Assessment: career politicians focus on short term solutions because it might be instrumental to their return to power. An example is a society where leaders place education sector development as less important, because it doesn't suit short-term plans to solving problems that has immediate effect on the people's lives to prompt their franchise in the nearest election year. They tend to abandon medium term and long term investment projects that would have bearing on the future of the people and their economy simply because he might not be in office at that time to commission it and have his name engraved or inscripted on the commissioning board as the one who built and finished the project to add applauds to political career. Non-career politicians with selfless service minds focus on what will benefit the people in both long term, medium term and short term, without any selfish aim.
5. Non-career politicians as leaders in top position add value to profession, in other words their leadership is Skill and Love driven. Knowing that technology springs from skills and good skills give birth to a working system supported by character, patriotism, law-abiding or love as the sincerity governing ethics of all profession. Where there is regard for skills and love as the vitals of building a working system and leadership, politics is not needed. The first letter syndrome and other irrelevant innuendos such names, tribe and religion countless to non-career politicians where skills and patriotism is present in a person for appointment.
6. Public-Private Relationship: non-career politicians are mainly people who hail from the private sector. They seek to build a formidable relationship between public and private knowing that government is the total number of the private establishment in a system. Take for instance the ministry of education, the number of government schools in a country is nothing compared to private schools. Infact some countries have no nursery or kindergarten school as foundation for education system, they are purely private owned. This means that the private sector is also an independent government on its own. This is why Jesus Christ operated his ministry as a private sector and yet humiliated by the government driven by career politics and jealousy.
So non-career politicians in leadership position are in a much better position to solve the people's problems than the career politicians who should be considered as field leaders, not top leaders. Thesame experience and successes they record in their businesses will simply be transferred to the service of their leadership jurisdiction. As private sector drivers of the society and job creators, they would ensure that they remove all bottlenecks that affects businesses and challenges the welfare of the people such as wars, terrorism, corruption, infrastructural decay plus other economic solution dimension to the problems of a people. Non-career politicians are predictive and preventive minded in their leadership drives in other to avoid risking the cost effect of the corrective drive. Unlike career politicians that are politics driven in all that they do. Prevention is better than cure. In other words, to predict and prevent is better or less expensive than to correct
